Just two days ago, noted young photojournalist Danish Siddiqui himself became news when he was killed while covering clashes between Afghani security forces and the Taliban, near Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan. The killing of Pulitzer award winner Siddiqui, and for that matter killing of any person, is tragic, and must be condemned by all in the loudest possible voice.
The fact that the Central Government did not issue a statement on Danish’s killing is understandable for his photographs brought ‘bad name to the country’ overseas. The first, third and fourth photo in the collage above speak crude truth, not liked by the powerful.
What, however, is not understandable the reaction of the country’s citizens. I am verbatim quoting all the comments made by the readers of online edition of Hindi daily Navbharat Times where I read the tragic news. The comments are at the time of my reading, simple copy and paste, and not a single letter or punctuation changed. Many more might have appeared later. The oldest comment is on the bottom and the newest on the top.
