Fifteen days after using Jio Fiber service, some reality talk.

Use the connection on PC/laptop through LAN, you get promised speed of up to 100 Mbps. Use the connection through WiFi, you again get promised speed of up to 50 Mbps. So far so good.

Theoretically, a 100 mbps internet connection should give download speed of 12.5 MB/s. After taking into account things like data loss, etc., it should be not be less than 10 MB/s. Therefore, a 55 MB file should be downloaded in about six seconds. Considering the time taken in handshake and processes the task should be over in say 10 to 15 seconds. It took 70 seconds to download the file, giving download of speed 0.796 MB/s or effective internet speed of 6.37 Mbps.

Interestingly, the same process when repeated through JioFi gave the file download speed of 1.4 MB/s. Internet connection speed with JioFi was about 6 Mbps. The file was downloaded in about 40 seconds.

Before Jio, I had internet connection of 50 mbps from Aerocast and that effectively gave me download and upload speed of 6 MB/s on the same server whose screenshots are here. It had the demerit that the connection used to be down twice or thrice in a month and hence opted for Jio Fiber.

I am just wondering how Jio manages such a feat: Hathi ke daant dinkhane ke aur khane ke aur. There is not just dal me kala, but the dal hi kali hai.

Thanks Ronald, Shobhit and Deepak. Here if further insight. Jio Fiber is not allowing me to access home page of my bank’s website, syndicatebank.in and a website on Mahatma Gandhi, mkgandhi.org. Incidentally both of them can be accessed through proxy server with the same connection. Jio mere Ambani.

Very informative Shachinderji! I am also a jio user but the fact is that I am too busy for this type of information you pointed.
Really an eye opener. TRAI is also keeping eye shut on this issue. Now new stuff for talking to other networks. Gods know when Accheee Din Aaenga….. Are we really living in Digit world or is it really a gimmick as far as India is concerned.

Absolutely right jija ji. Jio is making fool of users from very starting. I have complained regarding slow speed several times in last 3 years. Every time I get the same answer that they are upgrading network in my area and problem will be soon sorted out. They could not improve the network in 3 years. I am damn sure, jiofibre will also another nightmare.
